David was so sad when he realized kayaking was all done!

I let him take some pictures with the camera to cheer him up...

David's getting to be quite the photographer!

Grammy Wednesday & Visiting Teaching

David off to enjoy his Grammy Wednesday. I cleaned out his closet and found his sunglasses and train conductor scarf and he wanted to wear them to Grammy's house.
He couldn't wait to get going!

Kim and Andrea came for visiting teaching today and stayed for a swim.

Rachel so loves little Calvin and tried to Mommy him most of the time he was here. My favorite memory of the day was when I said to Rachel and Julia that we would go to Taco Bell for dinner and Rachel said, "Yeah!" and ran over and gave me a hug while I was sitting down on the couch and as soon as she was done Gabriel, Andrea's three year old, said yeah too and hugged me just like Rachel had done! I had to warn Andrea when she came out of the bathroom from changing out of her swimsuit that Gabriel might want Taco Bell for dinner!

FHE Feed the Ducks

We had two Family Home Evenings this week; first we went out to the Folsom Powerhouse trying to find a place to feed some ducks but there were no ducks that wanted to be fed there, even though it was very pretty there and we had fun exploring. We ended up at Negro Bar where we were able to feed some ducks and barbeque some hotdogs. We weren't able to eat our watermelon though because Jared forgot to grab the knife his Dad told him to get to cut it, we ate it when we came home though.

Memorable Moments: David saying, "Bemember when we fed the ducks." When Rachel asked Sheldon what ducks eat and he answered, "Mostly the fish in the lake and little girls toes." (The look on her face was so funny!) Rachel sitting down by me on the picnic table bench, her tummy full from just finishing her hotdog, but with her orange soda still in her hand, she leaned her sweet head against my arm, sighed and then said, "This is the life!"

We also did a group FHE on Monday night which was fun even though Sheldon told me he didn't think we would be doing it this week...I was a little late because I took Jared to Taekwondo but it all worked out in the end!

Thankful for my Baby Girl

Rachel fell down the top portion of the stairs yesterday. She has a big bruise on the side of her left lower leg where she hit it on the bannister but besides that she is fine. It scared the living daylights out of me as I heard her bump down the stairs and then start screaming! Motherhood is not for the faint of heart! Every time I look at her little face since she fell I have been feeling so thankful she is ok and appreciating how much I love her and how lucky I am to be her Mommy.

Partners in Crime

I guess I should've supervised the shampoo usage a little more closely!?! This actually happened a few weeks ago...I was embarrassed at the lack of supervision my children obviously had taking a bath! It was just too cute not to remember though.

Holding On to Our Baby

I'm not the only one holding on to David's babyhood...Julia enjoying our little David's willingness to be bundled up and cuddled like a baby. Only 22 more days until he turns four:(

Banana Squash

I have never cooked with a banana squash before this last week. When Jamie came to swim last Monday she brought me over one along with two pumpkins she had grown in her garden. I added it to an easy chicken stew made with a Costco rotisserie chicken and the yellow and orange peppers you can get in a big bag at Costco along with onions and then the banana squash. It was so tasty and easy. I liked how the banana squash held its shape and didn't get too mushy like most squash, (I made sure I added it last and didn't over boil it). I made a banana squash casserole with onions and tomatoes sprinkled with parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning, and a little bit of olive oil. I loved it but my kids turned up their noses. I've been in a kind of cooking rut lately and it felt good to try something new. That squash was so huge I was able to add three cups to my stew, make a big 13x9in. casserole full, plus I had 3- 1 quart sized bags stuffed full of slightly steamed squash left that I was able to freeze.

Little Boys

Jamie Jones' little boy Jayden was so cute; he made me take his picture even though I promised myself I wouldn't take any pictures yesterday when they came over to swim. We took a break from swimming and ate Julia's homemade oatmeal cookies, strawberry popsicles and frozen cherries...he thoroughly enjoyed them and was adorably messy!
This little boy face I absolutely can not get enough of...even when it is pouting and mad at me for not letting him take any more pictures with my camera. (I made the mistake of letting him take a few pictures a few days ago and now any time I get the camera out he wants his turn).
This morning I got out of the shower and had to walk downstairs to get a clean towel...I guess I left wet foot prints on the carpet because David came down stairs a few minutes later and said he found me because he "followed" my foot prints. I told him he was just like a detective but he said he would need "a hat and glasses" if he was a detective. Little boys are just so funny and cute!

Our Excitement of the Day

Sheldon and Jared were coming back home from picking up our new/used dryer when they were followed into our housing developement by three fire trucks. Sheldon said he was panicking (Sheldon NEVER panicks) that he was going to be met at our house by the fire trucks with David possibly drowned or the house blown up by gas,(he had been working on our gas dryer). Sheldon went a different way than the fire trucks but was surprised when he met them coming down our street as he was coming up. Everything was fine at our house but our neighbor's elderly mother was having some health problems.

David especially was so excited when one of the firemen waved good-bye as they were all leaving!

Happy Pioneer Day

Rachel and Julia love to dress-up...we never did make it to the pioneer day celebration but they had fun playing dress-up anyway! Sheldon was trying to fix our broken down dryer and our cobbler that Julia made, (she doubled the peaches but not the other ingredients) turned out soupy and slightly burnt on the top...it was still good over icecream!

4th of July

Sheldon and Jared got back from scout camp yesterday. They were covered in dirt and dust from head to toe, I mean really, really dirty! After they both went upstairs to take a long shower, I wanted to kick myself for not taking a picture! I have gotten so much better at taking pictures though...I went to get some pictures of past 4th of Julys and there was next to none. My last camera's batteries needed to be charged after about 10 pictures so I hardly ever took it with me and if I did there would only be a few pictures of that event unless I took my charger with me, which didn't happen very often except maybe Thanksgiving and Christmas. I didn't really feel like taking that many pictures this 4th but Cami took over for me so we still have some pictures of our rather boring celebration. Sheldon and Jared didn't get home until after noon but the rest of us had planned on going to the stake breakfast. I got up at 6:30 am and tried to get Julia and Rachel up to get ready but they wouldn't get up, (Julia claims she has no recollection of trying to be woken up). Anyways, I got frustrated with the girls and just went back to bed, so no pancake breakfast for us. Brandon called up on his break from work and wanted to come over so we barbequed and swam with a vague plan to go to Hagen Park and watch the fireworks...the parking situation at Hagen Park sounded complicated with parking at some elementary school parking lot with a fee of $10 and then taking a bus to the park, that never happened. Our backyard neighbors had lots of fireworks and a few people had some pretty awesome fireworks, that went fairly high in the sky, that they must have been setting off at the park. Our kids weren't totally deprived of fireworks, but all in all our 4th was pretty low key. It's about all I was up for though.
My favorite memory of the night is when I was in the pool with my oldest son Brandon and he was irritated with Jared because Jared, being over tired from his week at camp was being a grumpy disobedient buggar...Brandon said something like, If I acted like that I would have wanted to "smack the crap" out of myself. (He so did act like that at times!) When Brandon said that I laughed so hard, (the only reason I included that picture of me in the pool laughing). You would've had to be his mother during his teenage years to understand just how very funny him making that comment was...It only took him until he was 25 years old but he finally gets it! :)
