Julia Leaving for Girls Camp

My sweet girl Julia, is off to her first year of girls camp this morning...her Daddy is one of the drivers up to Camp Bountiful. Julia has been in a whirl-wind of activity packing for camp these past few days. As she was walking out the garage door to get in the car to leave, I saw her bathing suit on top of the dryer and said, "Don't you need your bathing suit?" to which she immediately said, "Yes! Thank-you MOM!" She then went on to tell me how worried she was she would forget it and she almost did! It's nice to know she still needs her Mommy to save her day every once in awhile:)

Julia after she has arrived at Camp Bountiful and is all checked in.

This picture was taken Saturday, the 31st, the day Julia arrived home from camp.

Rachel's first amusement park boat ride!

This picture was taken in the summer of 2003, Jared was 8 and Rachel was almost 2. Jared had just been taken on this exact boat ride...he was extremely mad at me for taking him on something that not only scared him but got him wet too!

Swimming with Friends

Were enjoying swimming while we can; only a few more months left. Rachel said, this morning, "It's going too fast!" and Julia chimed in, "I don't want school to start in a little more than a month!!"

"I didn't wanted to get poked!"

David went to the doctor yesterday to get his physical for kindergarten. I don't immunize so David is not use to things hurting him at the doctor's, so when they pricked his finger to get a sample of blood to check for anemia he was quietly stunned that this women that he didn't know would make him bleed! He didn't cry when she pricked his finger, squeezed the blood out on to the little piece of glass and then quickly bandaged it with a Blue's Clues bandage but as we walked down the hall to get a urine sample afterwards he was quietly whimpering and asking me, "Why did that lady poke me and get my blood? I didn't wanted to get poked!" We arrived in the bathroom with the cup ready but David was getting himself more and more agitated dwelling on the finger poke...I was trying to reasure him that it was all over and she wouldn't poke him anymore but his stomache started hurting him, he went very pale, his lips were blueish in color and he had broken out in a clammy sweat! In the middle of me trying to coax him into getting a urine sample he said in a high pitched whinny little voice "I need to lay down!" He was already leaning up against me so I was able to catch him as he blacked out, (sounds more masculine for his future girlfriends who might someday read this blog;). I carried him back into the examine room where the nurse got all flustered and went in search of the doctor, the doctor came in and listened to his heart and asked if he had eaten breakfast, which I told him that he had just eaten at McDonald's right before we came. I said, "I guess some people just can't take the sight of their own blood!" By this time David was awake with a kind of glassy stare in his eyes, very pale, extremely sweaty all around his hair line. The nurse gave him a glass of water which I told him as soon as he drank some we could leave, which perked him up and he quickly drank the little cup of water. We never did give that urine sample but the doctor said to never mind.
I guess David won't grow up to be a doctor if he faints, I mean blacks-out at the sight of blood. Jared cut his finger whittling with his pocket knife at Scout Camp last year and then blacked out on the way back to the camp, (he did a face plant in the dirt), after washing the blood off of his finger in the bathroom. Brandon when about 12 threw up and then blacked out after we had carbon monoxide poisoning from our heater that was cracked and sending out carbon monoxide fumes into the house. We were all taken to the hospital after Amanda fainted and we called 911...Brandon was having his blood drawn to see what level of carbon monoxide was in his blood when he threw up and then blacked out. Brandon's baby Zoe is due August 23rd...I hope he's not going to be one of those Dad's that sees the birth and then collapes on the floor in a faint/blackout but his family history seems to predict otherwise!

Jared gave a short talk in church yesterday about the pioneer hand cart trek he went on. He read a short story about the ancestor that he had walked for, Peter Weston Maughan, a little three year old boy that fell off of his wagon and was crushed by the wheels. His mother was comforting him when the little boy asked for his father and in the account it says, "I did not know that his father had fainted, for the Brethren stood to hide him from my sight". The father was eventually able to get up and say good-bye to his little boy but I'm beginning to see where my Maughan boys get their fainting tendencies!

Kim Cutting Moving to Arkansas

Kim Cutting, my very awesomely sweet and diligent visiting teacher recently moved to Arkansas...Our Family is so sad to see them go! Julia has learned to be an excellent baby sitter watching Calvin and Spencer regularly while Kim went to harp lessons or doctor appointments or out with Brian. We have been so looking forward to Howard's birth these past months watching Kim's tummy grow a little more each month as she would come over for visiting teaching and seeing her at church and then anxiously waiting to have the opportunity to be around a little baby. Just a few weeks after his birth the Cutting Family has moved and we all feel sad they won't be in our lives on a regular basis any longer. Thank you Kim for being one of the best visiting teachers I have ever experienced in my 27 years as a member of the church; you will be missed!!!
